Least Bittern-Vivian & Fulkerth Rd. Wetlands

I saw a LEAST BITTERN at 18:41 this evening. It flew from east to west over the barbed wire fence. The flight was fast, impressive, low to reeds with rapid wingbeats. Bright coverts and dark remiges were also observed(Sibley). Body was rufous with a dark head and very distinctive pale patches behind the neck. Rufous striping was noticeable on the breast when it landed. The bird was smaller than the American bittern I had seen before. Several American bitterns were heard. There have also been 13 Yellow-headed blackbirds at the site. Happy April.
